Late last year, when this very website informed me that a cup of coffee should, under no circumstances, be the first thing I drink in the morning, it was a shock to my system. For as long as I can remember, the promise of an iced almond milk latte was the only thing that got me out of bed, and it was certainly not something I was willing to give up…even for the sake of my hydration and cortisol levels.
But then, I started training for the New York City marathon, and—there’s really no better way to say this, so I’m just going to go for it—I almost pooped my pants on a morning run.
